30” x 40” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas signed by artist. It’s how I like to think about the order in which God created the universe; first space, then the matrix of time spread across space, and then a riot of colors. Of course you might think it just looks like a riot of colors on a black and white background.
36” x 36” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas (varnished) signed by artist. I think it was the small white lines that caught my eye and reminded me of a rain shower.
24 “ x 36” - Framed cold wax and oil on a clapbord panel signed by artist. This is the first “full size” piece that I have tried using cold wax and Oil Paint. The base coat on the claybord panel is acrylic, topped by multiple coats of cold wax and oil paint applied with breyers of various sizes. It’s been humbling trying to figure out how to apply the multiple coats without creating a muddy — bloody — mess.
A retired Philosopher’s Studio Practice
A former philosophy professor, attorney, and healthcare executive, the artist brings a lifetime of inquiry to the canvas. After decades spent working on ethical problems, legal concerns, and the challenges of American healthcare, retirement opened space for a different kind of endeavor—one that unfolds visually rather than in the languages of a professional life.
Working from home studios shared with his wife, also a painter, he creates art rooted mostly in imagination, with a playful sense of the unusual. These works are invitations—to slow down, to observe, to react, to consider what comes to mind, and to celebrate a world rich in colors.
24” x 36”. Framed acrylic on stretched canvas signed by artist. A single brush (from Home Depot) was used to create this piece, and now in a fitting end that brush will live on a part of the artwork it created.
18” x 24” - Framed cold wax and oil with an acrylic base on a clapbord panel. I just haven't been able to figure out what to call this piece. I thought..."I'm just stumped." Then it occurred to me..."It's Stumped." Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

30” x 40” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas signed by artist. The trick with this piece was figuring out what tool to use to apply paint to the stencils. After a number of experiments, a breyer was the choice.
