36” x 36” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas (varnished) signed by artist. I think it was the small white lines that caught my eye and reminded me of a rain shower.
24 “ x 36” - Framed cold wax and oil on a clapbord panel signed by artist. This is the first “full size” piece that I have tried using cold wax and Oil Paint. The base coat on the claybord panel is acrylic, topped by multiple coats of cold wax and oil paint applied with breyers of various sizes. It’s been humbling trying to figure out how to apply the multiple coats without creating a muddy — bloody — mess.
24” x 36”. Framed acrylic on stretched canvas signed by artist. A single brush (from Home Depot) was used to create this piece, and now in a fitting end that brush will live on a part of the artwork it created.
From Argument to Image:
A Philosopher’s Studio Practice
A former philosophy professor, attorney, and healthcare executive, the artist brings a lifetime of inquiry to the canvas. After decades spent working in language, law, and systems of care, retirement opened space for a different kind of thinking—one that unfolds visually rather than verbally.
Working from home studios shared with his wife, also a painter, he creates art rooted in reflection, experience, and the enduring questions of human existence. These works are not answers, but invitations—to slow down, to feel, and to think without needing to conclude.

24” x 30” - Framed acrylic on stretched canvas (varnished) signed by artist. I wish I had titled this “Dangerousness.” It seemed to me it represents the combination of circumstances that always surround us and always feel dangerous…ness.
24” x 30” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas (varnished) signed by artist. The little house bottom left was the last image added. When I added it, I thought to myself, “Who would live here?” Euclid! just popped into my head. BTW, this won 2rd place in a local “art competition” for non-traditional paintings. I was thrilled when the award was announced…thrilled that is, until it was announced that my wife had won first place in the same category. It was a long ride home.
30” x 40” - Unframed acrylic on stretched canvas signed by artist. The trick with this piece was figuring out what tool to use to apply paint to the stencils. After a number of experiments, a breyer was the choice.
